"CANADA SRI AYYAPPAN HINDU TEMPLE"

About us:Ayyappa Samajam of Ontario is a non profitable organization with federal and provincial charitable status in Canada. The Samajam currently runs a Hindu temple and the presiding deity of the temple is our beloved Lord Sri Ayyappan.
The temple provides religious services varying from performing daily poojas to providing priests’ services to perform all aspects of Hindu rituals at homes and business places. We have 4 full time learned priests who are well versed in Saiva Agamas and Vedas. The temple also runs a religious weekend school where our volunteer teachers teach Tamil language, religion, carnatic music and Bharatha Natyam. Our very active youth group organizes many volunteer programs such as visiting the elderly , providing transportation to the devotees and helping in the community kitchen.
History:The history of the Samajam goes back to the early nineties when a group of south Indian Hindus started to perform ayyappa worship gathering in the basement of a devotee's home in Scarboorough, Ontario. As the number of Ayyappa devotees increased in number, the place of worship had to be moved to Worburn Collegiate in Scarborough where bhajans were performed every other Sunday. At the same junctre, there has been an influx of Sri Lankan Hindus arriving in Toronto as a result of the calamities in their homeland. Those who came here amidst a lot of difficulties had a spiritual quest and started joining various Hindu faith groups including Ayyapa center. As a rsult of it, difficulties arose to accommodate the increasing number of Ayyappa devotees, the center decided to move to a separate unit in a warehouse located on Markham Road in Scarborough. A small temple with a priest came into place where regular poojas were conducted and “Mahara Mandala pooja” were celebrated with great devotion and fervor. As the number of Ayyappa devotees increased in number in manyfold, the temple had to move its location to two more different locations before permanently settling in the current location at 635 Middlefield Road, Scarborough. Thereafter, Thousands of devotees generously contributed towards purchasing of 5.2 acres of land. When commenting on the sanctity of the land, Sri Pichchaikkurukkal of Pillaiyarpaddi, South India, who presided the consecration ceremony of the current temple had to say that “it was Lord Ayyappan ‘s blessing that we were able to buy this piece of land, and according to“Vasthu Sharthra” it is auspicious to build a temple in a land where once cattle were tended. With the generous help of our devotees the Samajam has been able to carry on with 7 million dollar project of a new temple with modern facilities and 98 percent of the project has already been completed and a tentative date has been set for its consecration ceremony in the spring of 2009.

Mandala viratham-Rules and restrictons

All round the work time, keep your mind only focused on the Lord. Even the work

you do is being instrumented by the Lord. Dedicate the same to the Lord.

Perhaps, Bhagavad Gita too shares a similar thought.

Avoid the enemies like Lust, Anger, Greed and Seductive Attraction.

Avoid gambling, smoking, alcoholic drinks and non-vegeterian dishes.

Ensure that you don't hurt anybody either verbally or by action.
When you meet a peer, who is in the 48-day observation, treat him on par Lord Ayyappa. Tell him Sharanam and offer pranams to him. There is no age, degree or other demarcatory restrictions in this whatsoever.
Your Guruswamy is on par Ayyappa. Service to your Guru is service to the Lord Himself.
The spirtual observation that you are on, you need to offer the fullest possible respect to Lord Ayyappa. There is no place of ego clashes in this whatsoever.

Just because you are on the observation, your family members need not incur additional work burdens either physically or fiscally or otherwise.

In the same vien, ensure that your family members do not obstruct or disturb your observation in any way. Let them understand the full depth of the observation.

In the unforeseen circumstance of having to encounter a birth or death in the near family relationship, surrender the mala to Lord Ayyappa photo. Wait for that year. You are eligible for the yatra from the next year.

You can humbly surrender to the Lord each time as Kanni Samy and with that reverence, if you worship the Lord, He bestows in you all His divine blessings.

With the spirtual observation on, you are being treated on par Lord Ayyappa. You need to preserve that respect you recieve and surrender unto the Lord. All people would offer Pranams to you, for this reason. There is no reason of gaining a superiority or ego because of this. You are just a relay server. Just think of the Lord and surrender those pranams to Ayyappa and seek His blessings for the people too.
All women, including your spouse are now on par your mother. Treat them with this vision.
Self Beautification is prohibited during the observation. This include:
Oiling Hair
Shaving
Oil Bath
As far as possible, eating and dining out can be avoided. In the worst inevitable case, follow strict vegetarianism.
A Tulasi leaf with you can help you ward off lot of evils.
Hope these small tips would help you a great way in getting up with the Spiritual observation for Lord Ayyappa to get His complete blessings.
